THE PLANT
The meat industry really began in 1882 when the
clipper ship "Dunedin" carried the first ever cargo of frozen
lamb carcasses from Port Chalmers in Dunedin bound for London.

Blue Sky Meats was formed 105 years later
in 1987 as an alternative for farmers. The meat industry has come a
long way in the past century. Whereas the emphasis was on frozen
carcasses it is now on a diverse range of further processed cuts both
chilled and frozen.
Modern transport methods have brought the
world closer and the time delay between processing and consumption is now
measured in hours rather than months.
