Board of Directors

Blue Sky Meats is a public unlisted company supported by a board of four directors.  This level of governance can provide reassurance to our farmers, our customers and our people.  

Each of them is individually accountable for the decisions the company makes.  It is not just the legal obligation that ensures this, they act with integrity because their values demand it.

Like the management team it supports, the board is an experienced team with a history of delivering excellence.  It is constantly looking to the future to ensure Blue Sky Meats is providing its customers throughout the world with the products they want, and that their farmers continue to receive a fair return.

The board is lead by Southland stalwart and Blue Sky Meats Founder Graham Cooney.
He pioneered the company in 1987 with a vision to add value to the New Zealand meat industry by producing fresh, quality consumer-ready cuts. That vision continues today and comes through in the quality service and products we provide.  With a background in farm consultancy, Graham also understood what would be important to farmers and introduced an innovative stock supply contract system which the company has used for 23 years.

Graham is joined on the board of directors by a diverse range of people with a cross section of skills and experience.

Malcolm Macmillan – a founder of Blue Sky Meats and the company’s first General Manager.  Having held the General Manager position for more than 20 years, Malcolm developed a reputation for being one of New Zealand’s leading meat processing and technical minds.  He now focuses on his continued role as director and representation of Blue Sky Meats on the board of OAL (Ovine Automation Limited), an industry group formed to develop processing technology within New Zealand meat industry. 

Peter Houlker – is an accountant by trade as well as holding directorships in number of primary production companies throughout New Zealand.  Peter has been with Blue Sky Meats since its inception and continues to bring a sound base of financial and operational expertise to the company.

Peter Carnahan – Peter has an intimate knowledge of the company having been a director since 1987 as well as holding the role of company secretary in the business’ formative years.  Formally an accountant, Peter has since held CEO roles with logistics companies including his current role with Trojan Holdings, a transport operation.  His combination of logistics and financial skills are a valuable asset to Blue Sky Meats.
